Today I was planning to make some bridges. Thinking through setting up fences, clamps, stops, and ramps for my combo sander or drill press to get it done, or buying a specialty fixture. Not happy with any of these ideas.

This is the revelation I got, and it works great. Set the spacer in for wing thickness first (about 5/32") I just make a line parallel to the bridge wing tips, and eyeball as I sand.

Till I have time to make a fancier jig than this, I'm a happy camper!

PS - having a radial arm drill press helped make this trick happen.

Sometimes we just find a way...

Nice idea. Now you need to find a way to keep that angle steady and repeatable for both sides.

Good looking bridge, what kind of wood is that?

Hey guys, don't go lusting after my Poplar stash... It's a Poplar prototype. I thought the contrast would work better than an ebony one.

Tomorrow's another day Don, full of inspiration.Terry Stowell38649.9968981482

Heh. Rockin'. I may just have to steal that idea, instead of constructing elaborate, complicated jury-rigged systems to do the exact same thing. Thanks!

Hey Mattia,

Steal away! Our baby is due in 3 weeks, so I'm not interested in speed bumps. Gotta get these guitars DONE! Like John Hall says - keep it simple. I've got a friend who builds banjos-incredible how he engraves the metal pot, the pearl, and relief carves the heels. He inspires me to learn to develop my eye and hands. I figure the least I can do is eyeball how far I feed a bridge into the drum sander. When (if) I have more time I'll add that too

G'Day
